1st Years
Mr Geogeghan and the LCVP class organised a soccer blitz for First Year students as part of their course. Students were divided into teams named as countries and set into two groups. They played out a number of matches and were subdivided into two further groups depending how they finished. Despite the inclement weather, the First years showed great heart and kept active throughout the rain. The winning team was Cameroon.
Huge thanks must go to Mr Geogeghan and his team of helpers for all their organisation and commitment.
2nd Years
On Wednesday the 2nd year’s went to drumming lessons from the Mobile Music School. Our tutor was Paul. First he taught us about weirder percussion instruments and their origins, such as the rainstick which is made from termites tunnelling in branches and leaving scraps behind them. For each student they got a different type of percussion instrument one was a tambourine, another was a tom-tom drums and another, disc drums. We played songs such as Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes and Rehab by Amy Whinehouse. He gave us the beat for a few songs and let us figure it out ourselves. It went well for some and not so much for others but it was good fun. It was great to just take a break from class and have a bit of a laugh with some friends.

1st and 2nd Year Art
Our Art teacher Ms. English gave Art Workshops to 1st and 2nd year students during Wellbeing Week. The students thoroughly enjoyed these workshops and their creativity and talent shone through their completed work.
3rd Years
To enter into the spirit of Wellbeing Week the third year students were brought to Navan Outdoor Activity Centre. Before they knew it the students were on the bus straight after their midterm and the excitement of getting out of the school for the day was palpable. The sun shone down for the whole day, it was the icing on the cake.
The organisers in the centre were most efficient and with 85+ students descending upon them they got into action immediately.
Bags were thrown into the dining rooms and off we went.
Mini Golf, Foot Golf, Foosball, Go karts, Obstacle course, Archery and Tug of war all of the activities were rotated for four good hours. Lads began to shed their coats and jumpers. They were building up a good thirst. Some complained of being tired. The trip was going to be a success. The staff there were well used to boys and their antics. A space ball was used for a game our students invented. Keep it uppey. So with this new game we were informed that it was going to be added to the Navan Outdoor programme. Trust Ardscoil Rís lads to come up with something imaginative.
The day passed so quickly and before we knew it we had to reluctantly get the bus back to Marino. Some lads actually fell asleep on the bus. Unbelievable but true Mobile phones were nearly forgotten for a day. Success!!!
Thank you to all who made the trip possible and enjoyable.
Wellbeing week for third years included a lesson on healthy eating.
It was an amazing experience.
A nutritionist and a dietician came to visit. Fully equipped they came with ingredients for every student in the year to make the most delicious protein balls ever. Before the demonstration began students were asked about their favourite choice of healthy protein bar and its purchasing cost. We couldn’t believe the unhealthy products contained in each bar and the high profit margins earned. The price to make our very own protein ball would be a mere 10 cents! Honey, oats, chia seeds, peanut butter ( and for those with a nut allergy almond butter) and cocoa all measured by putting a blob of this, a handful of that and a spoonful of the other all the ingredients were mixed together by hand. A very sticky operation. When the mixture bound together we were able to make the small balls, finished off with a coating of coconut.
So easy and quick to make and delicious. Goodbye to the over priced ‘Health Bars’.
The class finished with a sampling of Granola. We were shown how to remove the seeds of a pomegranate which were so good to add to your morning cereal.
The preparation and presentation was excellently done and most importantly students were told the clean up is as important as the preparation.
It was great to see students asking questions and having long conversations at the end of the class. It really was active learning at its best.
All in all we had a wonderful day and an invaluable lesson.
5th Years
On Tuesday, 1st March, the 5th year group travelled to Sky Park in Carlingford for the day. We were lucky with the fantastic weather and enjoyed the beautiful coastal scenery on our journey up.
The whole year group took part in activities including Axe Throwing, Archery, Ziplining and Aerial Walking (for those brave enough!). We worked up an appetite and a wide selection of food was made available for us before we journeyed back to Ard Scoil Ris for the end of the school day.
We had an enjoyable and exciting day out.

6th Years
Wellbeing Week is coming to a close with 6th Years Paintballing in Redhills Adventure Centre, Kildare. We are hoping all students, accompanying teachers and their Year Head, Mr. Dowling, come back in one piece!
Staff
ASR Staff were delighted to be treated to fruit pots with yoghurt and granola at break time on Wednesday.
Thanks to the Wellbeing Team, the Year Heads, the teachers, Mr. McHugh and Mr. O’Callaghan for making Wellbeing Week such a success!
