A Success, a Blitz and a Loss for Ardscoil GAA Teams this Week- Pics

Under 19 Hurling Victory- Wednesday 16th November

It was an entertaining game on Wednesday as the Ardscoil Rís Under 19 Hurling Team beat St. Benildus College at home.

Benildus got the game started with a point, but Ardscoil responded immediately with two goals from B. Gaughran. This put our team in a dominant position, leading 2-2 to 0-1 after ten minutes.

Ardscoil continued their excellent performance, with full-forward C. Cummins getting another two goals before half time to put the score at a comfortable 4-10 to 0-5.

Despite the scoreline, the game was not completely over yet, as the opposition came out much stronger in the second half. The two teams exchanged scores until Benildus scored two goals with a quarter of the game left to play.

By this stage, however, the game petered out, and a few brilliant scores from B. Gaughran, along with saves from C. Sheehy, were enough to see Ardscoil over the line.

The match ended 4-20 to 2-15, showing promising signs for the team’s Leinster Championship match next Tuesday.

Well done to all involved and good luck to them next week.

1st Year Blitz- Wednesday 16th November

On Wednesday there was a 1st Year Hurling Blitz organised by the TY Heaney class and led by Mr. Whelan. It was arranged as part of the TY Future Leaders programme and was based around the Event Management module.

It was an inter-class blitz with all teams being very well rounded which led to a lot of close matches. There were a total of 48 students involved and all of them tried their best and put on a great performance.

1 Fionn topped the group stage being the only team to win all of their group matches. There was a very intense final which was between 1 Fionn and 1 Diarmuid which was an extremely close game but 1 Diarmuid were eventually able to close out the game leading them to win the ‘cup’ portion of the blitz.

There was another intense game going down simultaneously with 1 Oscar and 1 Oisin battling it out to find out who would win the ‘shield’, although the teams were neck in neck throughout the match, Oisin ended up winning the shield!

Overall the day was a great success and I think that all those who took part in the event thought that it was some fun and was overall an enjoyable experience.

2nd Year Football- Friday 11th November

Ardscoil Rís 2nd year Footballers found themselves up against Coláiste Eoin in the quarter final.

This game was played in UCD. Coláiste Eoin had a strong start to this game, with a couple of goals which Ardscoil were unable to respond to.

In the second half, nicely taken scores by the Ardscoil forwards got them back on track. A solid defensive display from C. Nevin in corner back boosted Ardscoil’s chances.

Unfortunately for Ardscoil Rís they were unable to complete the comeback and lost by 7.
