Supervised Study

Dear Parent(s) /Guardian(s),

The option to register for Supervised Study from now until the end of the year is now available to students who are not currently participating. Priority will be given to 3rd and 6th year students.

Study will operate Monday to Friday at the following times:

Monday to Thursday 3.40pm to 5.30pm

Friday 1.10pm to 3.00pm

Study will not take place on days when there are Staff and Parent Teacher Meetings. You will be notified of any cancellations. Students are expected to follow the school rules during study time. Food is NOT ALLOWED in the study hall. Notes are required for all absences from study.

The cost of study for the period November to end the school year is as follows:

Nov to May: 4-5 days per week: €190 (2nd Sibling 33% discount, so pay €130 i.e total of €320)

November to May: 1-3 days per week: €120 (2nd Sibling 33% discount, so pay €80 i.e total of €200)

Alternatively if you would like to wait until January to register your son and for those who have already paid for term 1 the cost is as below:

Jan to May:4-5 days per week: €150 (2nd Sibling 33% discount so pay €100 i.e. total of €250)

Jan to May:1-3 days per week: €100 (2nd Sibling 33% discount so pay €66 i.e total of €166)

All charges can be paid via the school app. Please add your card to the app first if you have not done so already. Parents can add their card to the App by:

-Manage Payment Methods

-Add card

You can then return to the shop, enter the amount you wish to pay based on the above and pay for your selected items.

1st and 2nd Year Athletics Results

On Wednesday 9th November the Ardscoil Rís 1st and 2nd years attended the Blackrock Cross Country relays. Athletics is proving to be very popular with 1st years who made up five teams and there were two second year teams.

D. Murphy started off the 1st Year relay, Konrad was then tapped in to start the 1K. H. Giffney, running comfortably, tapped G. Spring in to finish strongly on the last 1k.
An ASR 1st Year team came 9th overall out of 45 teams from schools across Dublin!

The 2nd Years put in a great effort too and had a strong first team made up of M. Bannan, A. Flynn, S. Conlen and A. McDonnell.

Well done to all involved in the outing.

U16 and U19 Badminton Blitz

Ardscoil Rís had a tough opponent in Sutton Park for our recent badminton matches in which both the u16 and u19 teams took part.

The u16s got off to great start by winning the majority of their games, and although Sutton were a tough opposition, we were able to come out on top. Noble George had great games and won his singles against a great opponent.

The u19s had a harder time, with the other team having a very strong side. This led us to ultimately be beaten. All the u19 players put in their best effort and we definitely put up a fight against a very strong team.

U19 Footballers Cruel Loss-match report

Ardscoil Rís vs St. Fintans u19s Dublin Football Final

Commiserations to our u19 Footballers who suffered a heartbreaking loss to St. Fintans this afternoon at Parnell Park.

Ardscoil started the match brightly when Conall O Sullivan was played in 1v1 and coolly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the near corner. Ardscoil’s goal was picked away after 4 consecutive scores without reply from Fintans. A controversial refereeing decision was made late into the first half when the ball appeared to trickle across the line but it was not given.

HT: Ardscoil Rís 1-2 St. Fintans 0-6

A slow start to the second half for both teams as the first score back from the break was for Fintans around 10 minutes in, but a goal from substitute Cathal Baldwin revived Ardscoil’s spirit and things seemed to be falling into place for the win after 2 more points were added to our tally. The lads pushed until the very end until a ball dropped into the Ardscoil area and as the last kick of the game, was put away by a Fintans forward. A devastating way for things to end after a dominating second half.

Ardscoil Rís Under 17 Victory Against Gorey CBS

On Wednesday this week, Ard Scoil Ris Under 17 Hurlers had a comprehensive win against Gorey CBS in Wexford.

Gorey got the first score of the game after a fast break within 2 mins and got another soon after with a free inside the 45 metre line.

Ardscoil got their first score from a free taken by H. Dinnigan cutting the deficit in half. Gorey had a comfortable lead early on, leading by 0:04 to 0:01.

Ardscoil fought back to score 2 points and a goal scored by D. O’Brady and were leading for the first time in the game 1:03 to 0:4 in the 20th minute.
Half time score: Ardscoil 2:05 Gorey’s 1:08

Gorey were through on goal in the 55th min but Keeper J. Guinane pulled off a fantastic save at the bottom corner of the goal.

Full time: Ardscoil 3:11 1:10 Gorey.

It was a great display by the team and a well deserved victory.

Impressive Win for ASR Under 19 Hurlers Against St. Fintans

Yesterday afternoon Ardscoil Rís Under 19 Hurlers took on St. Fintans in a league match at home.

From the very start we could see which team was superior.

In the first half we were treated to a brilliant goal by C. Stacey, smashed in the bottom corner of Fintan’s net. Also an exceptional point was scored by J. Gilroy from the half back line after flooring his opponent. ASR started to pull away from Fintans and had a very comfortable lead at half time.

In the second half Fintans showed glimpses of life but were quickly shut down by the ASR defense. ASR didn’t stop until the end and got their well deserved win with an impressive final scoreline of 2-35 to 1-14.

6th Year Students Out and About Learning

ASR 6th year students are very active this week, on educational outings. A luxury we have missed during the pandemic.

The students attended a production of Macbeth yesterday, their Shakespearean play.

The Biology students are attended Dublin Zoo today to complete their Ecology Field Trip.

As always, the students represented ASR very well.

Maths Week Prize Giving

ASR Under 19 Football Victory Against St. Benildus

Congratulations to the U19s on their victory against St Benildus in the Dublin A championship.

They were off to a great start with 3 early goals from Paul Reynolds, Micheal O’Rowe and Thomas Gray. Micheal O’Rowe scored an impressive 1-7 throughout the Match.

St Benildus started to claw back from the start of the second half but the defense of the Ard Scoil team were able to hold them off. With the final score being 3-13 to 2-7.
